A Motorway across the Hill of Tara?
Posted by gailkav on April 26, 2007
It can’t be true – it seems almost unbelieveable that such vandalism could take place. But the Hill of Tara, the seat of Ancient Kings in Eire, is under threat from a motorway which will be built right across the top of this ancient site.
You don’t have to be Irish to be outraged. Tara may look like nothing more than a grassy green hill with a couple of rings on it to developers, but it is, as WB Yeats said, “the most consecrated spot in Ireland.”
To even think of putting an ugly motorway across the top of it simply shows how low humanity can sink, to spit on its own history, to drive a knife into its own heart.
Naturally, this won’t happen without a fight, and I hope that anyone who feels as angered by this as I am will sign the petition aand follow the fight to save Tara at the Tara Watch blog. If you want to see what this vandalism will look like, these pictures say it all.

I have signed the petition Gail and hope others will do similarly. Having visited these places I am shocked that such a scheme is being contemplated. Frightening really!

I will add my name immediately. There is altogether too much destruction world-wide in the name of greed and war. This is just one more example……

Thanks for creating awareness about this issue. Seems like something that ought not be happening. Worth signing, indeed!

I wonder if they came to their senses and stopped. Joni Mitchell was right, “they paved paradise, and put up a parking lot.”

At this time, the new Irish minister for the Environment has said he doesnt have the power to reverse the decision.
The campaign goes on.
